Child Health Promotion
Goal: To promote the healthy well-beings of the children and their families to access clean water, good hygiene and sanitation, better nutrition and safe shelters.
The food pack is very important to help our living condition
In partnership with the private sector, the De Heus TMH Co.,LTD, 127 families living the graveyard community received the food packs including scarf, soap, needle, fish and soy sauce, sugar, MSG, cooking oil and salt.
The distribution was chaired by the representative of the Khan governor, commune chief, village and community leaders and the company representatives of the De Heus TMH Co.,LTD. Sreymao, the representative of the food receiver, told that "I am very excited to receive the gift from Bethel Mission as my family and I are facing food shortage and struggling to live.
ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) Mission Partnering
ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) Mission Partnering with the Volunteer Doctor Team to check and treat the ears, noses and throat for the unprivileged people group in the graveyard, the slum, the construction site, the urban and the poor rural communities. The ENT Mission focuses on:
- screening health people from patient of ear nose and Throat(ENT);
- diagnosis with physical examination, otoscopy endoscopy and audiogram as well as various diagnostic tool;
- careful consultation with patient;
- treatment: Rhinitis or sinusitis, a.normal saline irrigation, b.hypertonic saline spray, c.nasal steroid spray, d.sinus puncture irrigation if needed.
External otitis: We will try to treat by vinegar therapy as well as classic treatment of mixed cream. OME: We will treat not only by traditional treatment with antibiotics with saline irrigation but also try to treat with hypertonic saline spray therapy. And we can do Vtube insertion; COM: We will do conservative treatment and dressing; Chronic cough: Posterior nasal drip syndrome, Variant asthma; GERD: We will educate the patient how to control.it.
Mobile Clinic Mission at Bethel Mission-Preah Vihear
Partnering with PMCI Cambodia to help the population Preah Vihear province where the health care of the people is limited. The Mobile Clinic is to check and treat the patients with the medical equipment such as: X-ray bus (X-ray camera, ultrasound, heart rate and blood test machine, Optic bus (eye examination and cutting glasses, small surgery and pharmacy) and cervical cancer screening bus.
By the grace of God, 524 patients including 356 women were checked and treated including 217 cases for the general treatment, 249 cases for eye check and glasses distribution, 48 cases for cervical cancer check and 16 walking stick and 1 wheelchair distribution.
Water Filtration System Project
he drinking water was one of the challenge for the families in graveyard. They had to buy $0.80/20L or more from the delivery into their homes and boiled the water. With the challenge, Bethel Mission installed the Water Filtration System within their community so that every family can come and refill.
The quality of water was tested and verified with the criteria of water recommended by the government. The water is filtrated by R.O and UV system with high pH for good health. Water Filtration System was installed inside Mrs. Channy’s house, one of the women group leaders for Sunday School. The community people are happy with the water quality and they pay only $0.50 for every refilling of 20L for the system maintenance and repair. 50% of the families (75/150 families) come and have a regular refill, 15-20 families a day.
Water is Life for the Living Being
Water, Hygiene and Sanitation are the major issues for those living in graveyard, especially the children. The Water Filtration Project was installed to benefit more than 400 people within the community. Mrs. Channy, the woman group representative, said "It is the first time since I live here to receive drinking water.
I hope it will be good for our community people to have water filtration system in place." Mr. Chuong, the village leader, thanked for the heartfelt support from Bethel Mission to my people. I will report to commune chief for accomplishment.
The Management of the rubbish and plastics is everyone job
The rubbish and plastics are being scattered everywhere from the entry to the end of the graveyard community. It is observed and learned that the behavior of the management of rubbish and plastics are poor from the children to adults. Bethel Mission made the awareness and gathered both the children and adults to clean up the community and at the same time, Bethel Mission conducted the community meeting to discuss about the rubbish and plastic management.
To have a better management the rubbish and plastics, Bethel Mission donated 55 dustbins to household so that they can improve the community hygiene, especially the children. We will continue to make awareness of the risk of plastic and cut down to use. Mr. Chuong, the village leader said “With the support from Bethel Mission, I hope we can manage the rubbish and plastics in our community better.”
Food for those affected by Covid-19
There are 32 families including 59 children from Oral and Kandal Steung received food packs including 15kg of rice, 35 packs of noodle, 6 canned fish, 3 bottles of soy sauce and 2 bottles of fish sauce. Mrs. Sokha, the representative of the families said “I am very excited and happy to receive the food pack during the restriction of Covid-19 because the people in our area are facing food shortage. I would like to thank for the kind donation."
Mr. Si, the village leader at Oral told “I am very pleased to see my people receive the support from the charity NGO. I do hope our community will receive more support, especially the children for their school materials and uniform.”
Women Hygiene Training
Women are the mothers of the world and the world set the day in March 8 for International Women's Day.
Bethel Mission partnered with health center to conduct Women Hygiene to 45 women in Sangkat Niroth and Chbar Ampov 2. Mrs. Mao, one of the participants, said "The training is very helpful for me as the pregnant woman to understand. I will see the doctor after the training so that I can take care of my baby." Mr. Choung, the village leader said "I would like to than Bethel Mission for helping the women with such a good training."
We would appreciate TOUS LES JOURS
With the kind support from TOUS LES JOURS, Bethel Mission is able to collect thousands of bread and hundreds of birthday cakes to feed thousands of the children and families in graveyard, slum and poor communities in the provinces. We would appreciate TOUS LES JOURS, for helping the bread and cakes.
Pisey, the children leader in the slum, said "I am happy to have our birthday celebrated by Bethel. I can have bread every week from Bethel Mission. It is delicious that I have never eaten before.".
Beyond, Bethel Mission can support the prisoners and the children with mothers in prison as well. Mr. Seng, the prison official, in charge of clinic department, appreciated the kind support from Bethel Mission.

Praise the Lord, 66 families affected by COVID-19 received food packs from Bethel Mission, 44 families from graveyard and 22 families from slum in Khan Chba Ampov, Sangkat Chba Ampov 2 and Niroth, Phnom Penh, 50 families in the provinces of Siem Reap and Banteay Meanchey. Each family received 15 Kg of rice, 6 canned fish, 30 packs of noodle, 5 bottles of soy and fish sauce.
The food packs are very helpful as they are not able to go out for business. Mr. Mov, the scavenger, said that “I would like to thank Bethel Mission for the food pack as I am currently facing with food for my family due to the restriction of Covid-19.”
You can forget Covid-19, but Covid-19 has never forgotten you
In accordance with the announcement from the Ministry of Health and Education relevant to hygiene promotion from the pandemic of Covid-19 in schools, Bethel Mission partnered with the high school and supported the washing hand facility. This will be a contribution to keep them aware of the virus and the pandemic in school. The students are able to clean their hands regularly. The facility can impact more 800 students.
We Together Keep Our Environment and Community Clean

The rubbish and plastics are being scattered everywhere from the entry to the end of the community. It is observed and learned that the behavior of the management of rubbish and plastics are poor from the children to adults.
Bethel Mission made the awareness and gathered both the children and adults to clean up the community in October 2020 to agree together that “We Together Keep Our Environment and Community Clean”. At the same time, Bethel Mission conducted the community meeting to discuss about the rubbish and plastic management and hope to cope with the issues soon.
Sanitation is very limited for those living in graveyard
According to the assessment in October 2020 with the village and community leaders to 89 respondents out of 113 households shown that 42% families (37 households) living without toilets. These families are borrowing their neighboring toilets at daytime and used plastic bag to throw in the community.
Blessedly, Bethel Mission partnered with Salvation Army Phnom Penh Corps and 13 families received the toilets to improve their hygiene and sanitation. Grandma Som, 75, lives in the, is happy to have her own toilet. She said “I am delighted to receive the toilet that I have never had for more than 20 years.”
We do hope and pray that the rest of the families will receive their own toilets withing the coming years.
I Can Improve My Personal Hygiene
Mrs. Hong was born in 1991 in the cemetery along with 5 siblings, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She got married with two children, 5 years old and 5 months old. She said “Life is terrible to live in this community. It is a perilous cycle of poverty that is difficult to break, but I have no choice to leave. I am concerned about the future of my children with the environment where they are growing.”
She continued to tell, “My husband, main household provider, is a construction worker without regular income. I cannot help earn income because I have to take care of young children at home. It was difficult for my family and me, as we did not have toilet. We have to ask people around both day and night to use the toilet. With a smile, she told that “I am happy and excited to have my personal toilet at home. I would like to thank Bethel Mission Organization and the Donor who contributed their money to bless my family with toilet. I do hope that more families will have their individual toilets at home like our family within the community.”
My Children Are Safe With New Toilet
Sreypich is one of the 18 students in her English Class and Sunday School at Bethel. She and her family live in the stupa, downstairs for her parents and she is staying up the stupa with her sister.
Mrs. Theary, 56, the mother, said “We have lived here before the Buddhist template developed, more than 25 years. Now, we are facing the dismissal from the top monk. They need the land to sell for building new grave and stupa.” Mrs. Theary told that "We are not allowed to build or repair any. We are not able to move to any place, for we cannot afford to buy the land."
Mrs. Theary told that "It is very special for my two daughters whose bedroom is on the stupa to have toilet there. It was difficult and dangerous for them when they need toilet at night, but now it is great to have it. We are grateful for Bethel to support our family with the new toilet." Both parents and children are pleased to have their own toilet.
